Planet Fitness, the well-known fitness gym chain with locations nationwide, has debuted its new location at 5460 Platt Springs Road in Lexington’s Red Bank community. The gym is in the Platt Springs Crossing mixed-use development that is bringing businesses, restaurants and residences to the area.

The recent opening of the Red Bank Planet Fitness was shared by the company in a Facebook post. There also was a large, purple balloon touting that the location is “now open” posted outside the business when a reporter briefly went by earlier this week.

Platt Springs Crossing is a 60-acre, $65 million mixed-use project that is rapidly expanding off Platt Springs Road near South Lake Drive in Red Bank. Businesses that already are operating at the site include a Lowes Foods supermarket, a Panda Express Chinese restaurant, a Whataburger, a Chipotle, a Big Blue Marble Academy early childhood center and a Prisma Health urgent care facility. A Fifth Third Bank branch also is under construction there.

Developers have announced that Tropical Smoothie and Venus Nails have signed leases to be a part of the development, and a LongHorn Steakhouse is being constructed on the southeast end of the property. Also, there are 142 townhomes planned on the northeast side of the development.

The Red Bank area in south central Lexington County has roared with growth in recent years with new subdivisions, schools, businesses and more. About 19,300 cars per day travel down Platt Springs Road near the Platt Springs Crossing development, per state Department of Transportation data, while more than 28,000 cars per day wheel down South Lake Drive nearby.
